In a significant development for Boston’s waterfront, Blue Atlantic Fabricators, located in East Boston, Massachusetts, is proud to announce the successful fabrication and launch of a massive 50-ton floating dock, measuring an impressive 20 feet by 80 feet. This steel marvel will find its home at Lovejoy Wharf in Boston and will serve as the cornerstone for privately-run ferry and water taxi services connecting Lovejoy Wharf to Boston’s vibrant Seaport District. Offering both bow-loading and side-loading capabilities, this all-steel dock is set to redefine water transportation in the region.

Partnering for Success

Blue Atlantic Fabricators has crafted this remarkable floating dock for C. White Marine, Inc., the general marine contractor responsible for developer Related Beal’s Lovejoy Wharf project. The tight project schedule demanded completion by the end of 2018, with the much-anticipated ferry and water taxi services commencing in the first quarter of 2019.

Michael Julian, General Manager of Blue Atlantic Fabricators, expresses the company’s pride in contributing to Boston’s infrastructure growth. “We’re thrilled to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the City of Boston. As a local company, we’re committed to providing jobs to the Boston community and delivering custom pieces with the craftsmanship and quality that our city deserves.”

A New Chapter for Blue Atlantic Fabricators

This project marks a significant milestone for Blue Atlantic Fabricators as it operates under the newly established subsidiary of Boston Harbor Cruises (BHC). Rick Nolan, Principal of BHC, speaks about this exciting venture, stating, “BHC recognized the tremendous potential within the fabrication market, and it’s exhilarating that our inaugural project supports water transportation in Boston Harbor.”

Blue Atlantic Fabricators, situated on the East Boston waterfront, boasts deepwater access and heavy tonnage berthing capabilities, positioning it perfectly to supply structural steel components to the burgeoning U.S. offshore wind industry constructors and developers. It also stands as a prime source for potential boat builds, aligning with BHC’s plans to expand its fleet.

Nolan emphasizes, “Production at Blue Atlantic Fabricators embodies the essence of Boston’s working port, preserving skilled trade in Massachusetts. This facility enables BHC to continue providing top-notch, local services and support to the rapidly growing East Coast wind and energy market.”

Blue Atlantic Fabricators’ commitment to excellence in steel fabrication, coupled with its strategic location and partnership with Boston Harbor Cruises, is set to propel Boston’s waterfront transportation and contribute to the city’s dynamic growth.
